Upon completion of the course the students shall: - have an overview of the political, cultural and economical systems that have influenced global history - be able to explain the most important theories of why capitalism and the industrialised society had the first breakthrough in Western Europe - be able to discuss the historical background for the vast ecominical differences in the world today, with special focus on the comparison East-Asia and Africa

Economic systems, gatherers and hunters, the agricultural revolution, the rise and fall of civilisations, the history of Antiquity, cross-cultural net-works, the breakthrough of capitalism and the industrialised society in Western Europe, African and East-Asisan history

Lectures

A preliminary test must be assessed as a Pass.

A 6-hour individual written examination. Graded assessment.
