ERN108-1 Food and Meals in Kindergarden
Food and Health 1 (Nutrition, Food and Culture), One-semester Programme , Bachelor's Programme in Pre-school Education

The course is open to students who are in the third year of their Bachelor Programme in Pre-School Education, and is also offered as a continuing education for pre-school teachers.
After having completed the course, the students will: have knowledge and understanding of nutrition for children, according to recommendations from the authorities be able to pass on healthy habits of nutrition for children and their guardians be able to plan, organise and prepare healthy meals and activities related to food in kindergarten
food and meals for children in kindergarten organising activities Give qualified advice regarding children´s nutrition according to guidelines given by the authorities imparting introduction and implementation of healthy nutrition habits for children and their guardians knowledge about groceries Norwegian traditional food Food from other cultures Kitchen hygiene Food hygiene and safe food Food branding and labelling sustainable consumption of food changing food habits using our senses when cooking excursions budgeting using digital tools children´s literature, songs, poems and games about food and meals
Work methods might be lectures, study groups, practical and didactical assignments and presentations, portfolio, projects, problem-based learning, use of data programs and excursions. Compulsory parts of instruction will be announced in the beginning of the semester. The National Curriculum for kindergartens will provide guidelines for the work methods. It is important that the students acquire experience in preparations of food and meals in the kindergartens and that the students are integrated in the daily work there. Teachers will supervise the students in practical work in the kindergartens and observe them during the practical studies. The students will further be trained in organising and carrying out the course beyond the ordinary practical studies, by having groups of children participating in ordinary instruction at the university, or by having parts of the ordinary instruction taught in kindergarten or first class at primary school.
