EN-412-2 Utopian Literature
Spring
English
EN-410 and EN-411 or the equivalent must have been successfully completed.
After having completed the course the student shall: -be able to account for different forms of literary utopianism and their relation to historical, social and cultural processes and transitions -have developed an understanding for the relationship between utopian literary narratives, social conditions, as well as cultural processes and transitions
This course considers how writers in different ages have attempted to describe a better world than our own. We will concentrate on questions concerning identity, gender and social order. The course will also explore why some writers, distrusting certain utopian motivations, have created dystopias as a response.
Seminars
