EN-210-1 Popular Literature on the Renaissance Stage

One-year programme in English (60 ECTS credits) or the equivalent, EN-103 and EN-104 or the equivalent must be successfully completed.

After completing the course students should: - have insight into renaissance society, its many conflicts, conflicting interests and its approaches to different cultures - be able to identify, analyse and compare dominating literary and cultural manifestations

Give insight into approaches to new trends and technological progress in Renaissance England, particularly under the reigns of Elizabeth I and James I. This concerns A) individualism B) nationalism C) religion. The curriculum consists primarily of plays, fictional prose, essays and poems, alongside examples of contemporary art, music and architecture. Excursion: Voluntary excursion to Stratford-upon-Avon to see theatre and attend seminars.

Lectures and seminars

A compulsory essay written under supervision must be assessed as a Pass.

A 4-hour written examination. Graded assessment.

A 6-hour written examination. Graded assessment.
