General entrance requirements for higher education.

Students shall have: -acquired knowledge of the National Curriculum (LK06) and the competency aims in English in LK06 -acquired knowledge of important grammatical structures -developed competence in practical usage so they can become a good language model -developed knowledge of ELT methodology and language learning theories -developed a natural English pronunciation -acquired knowledge of common pronunciation errors -learnt to use ICT in their own language learning and for teaching purposes

Students will study different language learning theories and the development of English as a school subject. They will study basic structures in the English language in contrast to structures in the Norwegian language. Another area of study covers methodological and didactic aspects of teaching English. The aim is to develop an understanding of the English language system and provide a practical foundation for improving the students´ own language skills so that they can teach the subject in accordance with the national curriculum for the primary and lower secondary school, LK06.

Lectures and seminars.

Four compulsory assignments, two in grammar and two in phonetics must be assessed as a Pass. Attendance requirement: 80% compulsory attendance at seminars. For students in their third year of the Teacher Education: A 2-week teaching practice in primary school must be assessed as a Pass. For students in their fourth year of the Teacher Education as well as other students: One compulsory assignment must be assessed as a Pass. For further specifications see the English 2 curriculum.

6-hour written examination. Graded assessment.
