EN-127-1 British and American Civilization
Bachelor's Programme in Translation and Intercultural Communication - English
Autumn
English
After having completed the course students will: - acquire knowledge of social conditions and institutions in the target countries as well as the interaction between these countries and other countries - acquire relevant terminology in the areas covered by the course Contrastive aspects are emphasised to make students aware of the importance of such conditions for translation.
British culture is taught in the autumn semester and American culture in the spring semester. Relevant areas are: - political institutions and parties - the judicial system - education - religion - general and economic geography - media and the culture industry - the position of the country in the international community
Lectures/seminars
Four assignments per semester must be assessed as a Pass.
A 3-hour written examination in each semester. Each examination counts 50% of the final result. Both examinations must be assessed as a Pass before the course as a whole can be assessed as a Pass. Graded assessment.
