The students will have acquired a basic knowledge of - the English sound system - the main differences between standard British and standard American pronunciation - English pronunciation and Norwegian interference
The course is a basic introduction to English phonetics and practical aspects of English pronunciation. The focus is on articulation, phonemic transcription and the representation of speech in addition to basic knowledge of the English sound system. This involves a phonological description of the English consonant and vowel sounds as well as their variants in natural speech. There is also an emphasis on stress and intonation in standard English. Typical pronunciation problems for Norwegian learners will be given special attention in all the topics covered.
