After completion of this course the student should be able to: Give a record of a/d-converters, sampling rate, bit-rate and related concepts of digital technology. Give a record of various parameters describing a video source and be able to transcribe/recode a video between different formats using a scripting language. Give a record of the principles of video sampling, representation, colour models and compression techniques with emphasis on MPEG. Give a record of basic principles of analogue and digital audio. Give a record of the central technologies of a hard disk recording studio. Carry out a sound recording of a quality acceptable for publication. Utilise software for audio editing and enhancement and explain the principles of an audio sequencer
The course will provide basic knowledge about signals, digitalising and compression of pictures, video and audio. Subcategories are: digital video parameters, scripting language for modification of digital video, standards, codecs, hardware, colour models, streaming and compression (mainly MPEG). Sound in the real world and as digital audio, analogue and digital studio technology, software for audio editing and music production.
Lectures supported by E-learning resources. Mandatory exercises and project work.
Project work in groups(comprises 50 % of the final grade) and a 3-hour written examination (comprises 50% of the final grade). The written exam is given in the Autumn semester. The groups are given mutual grades, but the course lecturer has the right to evaluate students individually. Graded assessment.
