DAT101 Introduction to Object-oriented Programming

After completing the course students should: Understand and use basic database theory with special regards too relational databases. Understand and use SQL. Have a basic understanding and use of MySQL. Have a general understanding of data storage transactions and recovery concerning DBMS. Some understanding of UML and Object Oriented Databases. Some understanding of how a database and a website can work together.

Basic database theory, relational, OO and OR databases, DBMS, SQL, MySQL, database history data storage, transactions, recovery, modelling and UML.

Lectures, theoretical exercises, laboratory exercises and self study. The exercises take place in the computer laboratory on customized computers with specialized hardware and software. A laboratory engineer, student assistant and/or course lecturer is present. The students get training in development and use of professional software and hardware. The classes are split into groups of suitable sizes so that all students get access to necessary equipment and the help they need to solve the exercises. Some of the exercises involve group work. The problems for the students to solve, are typically development of own programmes and hardware.

Students must pass the compulsory theoretical and laboratory exercises and projects in order to take the examination.

Written examination, 3 hours. Graded assessment.
