BYG202-G Design of Buildings

Civil Engineering, Bachelor Programme , 2-year Programme in Civil Engineering, 2-year Programme

BYG110, BYG206 and BYG207 or equivalent.

After completing the course, the student is expected to have: knowledge in projecting of different types of buildings with special emphasise on the creative process insight in how user demands and social considerations may be taken care of by design and accomplishment

Expanding the knowledge on the design process of larger constructions, with emphasis put on determining main bearing systems and building materials. Attention is also paid to Norwegian legal claims and regulations regarding loads, combination of loads and safety claims to handle risks of collapse.

Lectures 2 hours per week and exercises 2 hours per week.

Satisfactory submission of compulsory exercises.

Written examination, 3 hours (40 % contribution to final assessment) and portfolio with project work (60 % contribution to final assessment). Graded assessment. The portfolio must be assessed to Pass to take the written examination. The candidate may be examined orally with regards to the portfolio. The examination may give basis for individual assessment also on the group work.
