Higher Education Entrance Qualification.
The programme gives basic knowledge in Norwegian and Nordic languages and literature from a broad cultural perspective, comprising theories of language and text, aspects of media knowledge, and Norwegian and Nordic culture, both past and present. The advanced component (Level 2) offers specialisation within a designated area. The programme imparts students with a broad understanding of Nordic languages and literature in Danish, Swedish and Norwegian (including both official Norwegian language variations). The advanced component of Norwegian Language/Literature and Media Studies consists of 7 courses on Levels 1 and 2, advanced courses on Level 2 as well as Ex.phil and Ex.fac and one course as an optional elective. The first year is identical with Nordic Languages and Literature. The following advanced-level courses will be offered during spring, 2010 for students beginning in 2008: KOM201 Discourse Analysis LIT201 Text - Presenter - Reader NO-205 Nordic Languages and Language Instruction NO-207 Subject area in Nordic Language NO-208 Subject area in Nordic Literature

The Examination Regulations of the University of Agder regulate the graduation requirements for each programme of study.
After having completed the programme, students should - have a basic knowledge of Norwegian and Nordic language and literature and of theories about language and text, and have a great understanding about the role language and literature play from a broad cultural perspective in both the past and present - have a personal and critical relationship to Nordic - especially Norwegian - language, literature and culture - demonstrate a greater understanding for and insight into the relationship between this culture and political and social relations, both historical and contemporary - be able to reflect and evaluate their knowledge and understanding about the subject area and be able to communicate their skills in various vocational arenas
Through independent study and instruction, students are expected to acquire factual knowledge and develop independent study skills. Instruction takes place in the form of lectures, seminars and group work, and students learn to present linguistic and literary topics pedagogically in both written and oral work. Instructional styles will alternate between lectures, seminars and group-work.
Forms of assessment vary; see individual course descriptions. Requirements regarding Norwegian language variants must have been met. The four examinations NO-100, NO-103, NO108 and NO-129) must be written in two different language variations.
The University of Agder has several partnership agreements with universities and university colleges in the other Nordic countries. Students in this programme may take a part of their studies at one of these institutions. Such exchanges can take place in the 4th semester, and must be approved by the programme director before they may take place.
Students must have successfully completed courses on Level 1 representing 40 ECTS credits in order to be allowed to proceed to Level 2.
Along with a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education for Vocational Teachers, the programme qualifies graduates for employment as primary school teachers. The programme also qualifies graduates for employment as executive officers in various parts of the public and private sectors. The programme qualifies graduates for admission to the advanced programme in Nordic Languages and Literature, Master´s Degree Programme. The optional part of the programme must be thematic relevant according to the programme.
