Admission to the programme requires three years of mathematics studies at the upper secondary school level.
Two years of physics and three years of mathematics at upper secondary school level.
The aim of the programme is to provide basic knowledge in mathematics, statistics and physics.
After finishing this programme the students should be able to: apply mathematical and statistical techniques commonly used in practice apply theory in physics and practical methods to describe phenomena in physics understand problems in mathematics and physics, obtain solutions and communicate the solutions to others give oral and written presentations in mathematics and physics to others apply software relevant for mathematics and physics
Instruction comprises lectures, computer lab work, work in small groups, and laboratory work. There are compulsory tasks and project work in all courses.
Assessment is based upon final written and oral examinations, and project report. There will be final examinations in all courses. Please see separate course descriptions for more information.
In parts of the second and the third year there are possibilities for studying abroad.
The Bachelor Programme in Mathematics and Physics provides the academic foundation necessary for teaching mathematics and physics at all school levels, from the lower primary up to and including the upper secondary (university entrance). The programme also qualifies graduates for jobs in the industry as well as those focusing on research and development. Having fulfilled the one-year teacher training programme, candidates are qualified to join the master programme in mathematics didactics at UiA and for further studies in mathematics and physics. The students will have the necessary background for studying subjects which make substantial use of mathematical techniques such as geological physics and mechanics and for programmes in economics, engineering and science.
