General description and profile of the programme In the Bachelor Programme Literature and Theatre students will study central works within literature, film and theatre in order to create their own productions inspired by these. In this manner different interpretations will appear, where text, acting and live images constitute a totality - in film and on the stage. The first semester provides fundamental insight in narratolgy and exercise in analytical work with narrative and dramaturgy across medias and expressions. This will also provide a common repertoir of texts, Norwegian and foreign and from the global popular culture, and to provide opportunities for initial experiments with creative project work. The second semester focuses on a larger in-depth study project where the student shall work towards a finished product in which several of the expressions in question are used. The first year of study consists of three interdisciplinary subjects, each containing elements of literature, film and theatre, in all 60 study credits. In relation to later in-depth studies each one of these subjects count 20 study credits. The second and third study year of the bachelor programme opens for a broader artisticc education. Students can choose an in-depth study in literature, film and drama/theatre. In-depth study in literature 20 study credits from the first study ear + 30 study credits chosen from the second year of study (literary subjects on 100-level in Nordic or English) + 30 study credits advanced study within literature in the third year of study (LIT201-1 + NO-206-1 + LFT200-1). In-depth study in drama/theatre 20 study credits drama/theatre from the first year of study + 30 study credits from the second year of study DR-102-1, 30 study credits) + 30 study credits advanced study within drama/theatre in the third year of study DR-202-1 + DR-203-1 + LFT200-1). In-depth study in film studies/film production Will be developed in the course of 2009, coordinated with other disciplines such as visual art, media and communication. One aims to offer 20 study credits in filmproduction in the spring of 2010, and an advanced course in the spring of 2011.

Learning outcomes Upon completion the students will have acquired the skill to: -combine creative work with literature, film and theatre with analytical and theoretical reflection. -work with narratology, dramaturgy, subjects and genres from different expressions, and to try these out both with regard to the creation of individual expressions and the interpretation of others´ work. -work in a project-based manner with subjects in literature, drama/theatre and film, where they develop knowledge and insight about practical work in textual, filmatic and scenic narratives. -work analytically and contrastively with literature, film and drama/theatre bridging expressions. -evaluate their own productions with respect to media and genre specific conventions. -work contrastively with literature, film and theatre across different expressions, discuss similarities and differences in form and content, and develop this insight in creative work. -work creatively with projects aimed at literary, filmatic and scenic representation.

Teaching methods Lectures, seminars and supervised productions. Due to the practical and group oriented form of the study program, attendance is obligatory. The attendance is obligatory in the workshops and in the film- and theatre production parts. A detailed overview of the obligatory sessions will be published in the semester plan.

Assessment methods A combination of group evaluations based on productions, and individual assessment (written assignments).

Student exchange Extension studies abroad can be arranged in the forth or fifth semester at an institution with which the University of Agder has an agreement. For further information contact the Head of Institute/international coordinator.

Requirements for continuing in the study programme In order to start the advanced programme in the sixth semester all the topics from the first semester, as well as the topics constituting the chosen selection in the second study year, must be assessed as a Pass.

Occupational profiles of graduates and access to further studies The program can prepare for work within the education and culture section and within communication/advertising. The program qualifies for admittance to the maser program in literary studies, drama/theatre and film studies depending on which advanced program the student chooses. Leads to a bachelor degree in Literature, film and theatre.

Other information During the first year there is an excursion to Copenhagen, Stockholm or London. Expenses for the excursion must be expected.
