Completion of general upper-secondary education.
The study of Employment and Welfare Administration has been developed in accordance with the new organisation of the welfare administration in Norway (NAV). The study programme aims to meet those welfare changes in society and to see these changes in a societal and an individual context. The education has a multidisciplinary perspective with topics ranging from administration, guidance, law, organisation theory, economy and sosiology.
Arrangements for the recognition of prior learning are described in the information on the institution under "General arrangements for the recognition of prior learning (formal, informal and non-formal)".
For a description of the examination regulations, see the Examination Regulations of the University of Agder.
For information about the Norwegian grading system, see ECTS credits and grades. Specific information on grading for each course is found in the individual course descriptions.
The Examination Regulations of the University of Agder regulate the graduation requirements for each programme of study.
The aim of the programme is to educate professionals who are focused on solutions and capable of distributing available resources within the welfare sector. The focus on work, administration and the multiprofesssional structure of the study will make the students well-educated for both procedural and relational management.
A variety of different teaching methods are used, for example lectures, group work, seminars and working with term papers. The language of instruction is generally in Norwegian, but some subjects may be taught in English.
Various forms of assessment will also be used. Exams may be written or oral, individual or in groups. There might be, for example, a reflection assignment, an at-home exam or a combination of several types of assessment. Please refer to the course descriptions for further details.
The faculty has extensive cooperation with various institutions both in Norway and abroad. This will also benefit the Bachelor students in Employment and Welfare Administration. Students may seek the opportunity to spend a semester abroad whilst pursuing their bachelor programme.
The study qualifies for work in the new welfare administration, both within procedural and relational management. With the multiprofessional structure, it also qualifies for working in other types of organisations. It is expected that there will be a great need for people with expertise within the knowledge of welfare administration. The degree qualifies for applying to higher education, for example the university's own master degree programmes in Welfare Studies or in Public Policy and Management.
Successful completion of the programme awards the graduate with the degree Bachelor of Employment and Welfare Administration.
The first three semesters of the Bachelor programme are taught together with students from the Bachelor of Social Work
