Frequently asked Questions

FAQ

Am I guaranteed a place to study abroad?

No, we cannot guarantee that we can find you a place that suits both your academic and financial needs, but we will try our best to find a good match for you.

Can I apply for funding from the State Educational Loan Fund for studies abroad?

Only if you already qualify for funding in Norway.

Does AUC have scholarships for study abroad?

No.

Can I apply for funding from other sources?

Yes. Check on the Internet for scholarships available from Norwegian associations or associations in your home country.

Is it expensive?

There are a lot of additional costs associated with studying abroad outside of Europe, such as insurance, obligatory semester fees, vaccinations, tuition fees, books, etc. The costs vary from country to country and institution to institution. In order to receive a residence permit, you generally have to document that you have the funds to sustain yourself for the period of study abroad.

What happens after I apply?

After the application deadline, we will sort the applications, call you in for an interview and try to place all applicants within 4 weeks. You will then receive an offer and have a week to accept or reject it. If you accept the offer, you will be given much more information by email, at an information meeting, and in Class Fronter.

Do I need insurance?

Yes. You need to fullfil the host institution's health insurance requirements. Sometimes this will require purchasing insurance directly from the host university. Sometimes insurance from your native country will be sufficient. As a student in Norway, you can apply to become a voluntary member of the Norwegian National Health Insurance Scheme, and this can also follow you when you study abroad for less than a year. AUC recommends that all students going abroad have travel insurance which also covers repatriation in addition to the Norwegian National Health Insurance, which only covers medical treatment. Read more about this here: www.trygdeetaten.no

Does the International Office accept applications after the deadline?

Yes, but we do not guarantee that we can find you a place to study abroad for the upcoming semester when you apply after the deadline.

Do I need a visa or residence permit?

It is your responsibilty to check the requirements for a visa or residence permit. You also have to apply for this yourself, but we will provide documentation for you if it is required. Check with the nearest embassy or consulate for up-to-date information.

Is accommodation guaranteed?

No, not necessarily, but many of our partners do provide accommodation or assistance in finding accommodation. The internaitonal office can give you further details on which of our partners guarantee accommodation.

Do I have to pay a semester fee to AUC even though I am abroad?

Yes. You are still a student of AUC while you are abroad.

Will my credits transfer?

As long as you follow your pre-approved study plan or have changes approved while you are abroad, you will be able to transfer the credit you earn into your degree from AUC. A full semester is 30 ECTS credits.
