Frequently asked questions

The following information applies to students from our partner universities:

1. Where do I find the application form? It is online. Apply online, and then send a learning agreement, transcript of records and photo of yourself to the International Education Office before the deadlines:

May 1st for courses starting in the autumn semester and

October 15th for courses starting in the spring semester

2. Do I need a visa to study at Agder? Not if you come from a Schengen country or a country on the visa waiver programme. A full list of non-visa countries is available here: Norwegian Directorate of Immigation. If your country is not on this list, then you need a visa!If you do need a visa, apply for it as soon as you receive your letter of acceptance from the University of Agder.

4. Do I need insurance for my stay in Agder? Yes! All students from EU/EEA countries must bring a valid European Health Insurance Card (former E111 certificate), obtainable in their own home countries, which entitles them to medical care under the Norwegian National Health Scheme. Expenses related to dental care and illnesses contracted before arrival in Norway are not covered.

Exchange students from other parts of the world staying for less than one year must have sufficient insurance from their home countries. Students staying more than one year can apply for voluntary membership in the Norwegian National Health Scheme after arrival.

It is the student's own responsibility to make insurance arrangements for any accident, illness, injury, loss or damage to persons or property resulting from, or in any way connected with, the study period in Norway.

5. How do I get to Kristiansand?

From Kjevik International Airport (Kristiansand)

Take "Flybussen" to the centre of Kristiansand or "Nettbuss" to the centre of Grimstad and Arendal. You can also use the local buses parked outside of the airport if they are marked "Kristiansand."

Ferry connections
From a number of major European cities by train or long-distance coach to Hirtshals in North Denmark and from there by regular ferry services to Kristiansand. Operating ferry companies: Colorline, Masterferries

6. Do I need to fill in a form for accommodation? All exchange students are guaranteed accommodation and you do not have to fill in a form. Please find more information here.

7. How many credits should I take? Full-time workload at the University of Agder is 30 ECTS credits per semester or 60 ECTS credits per year.

8. Do you have a Norwegian language course? Yes. It is an evening course which is free but does not give you credit. You can sign up for it after you arrive.
