Master's thesis
Master’s thesis
Here you will some information regarding the submission of a masters’s thesis at the University of Agder. It is important that both students and their supervisors read through this information and follow the instructions given below.
Handing in the master’s thesis
You have to have completed your semester registration and be registered for examinations for the semester in which you want to submit your thesis. Most of our master’s degree programs have a submission deadline twice a year.
All students have to hand in their master’s thesis in Fronter. This means that you have to complete and finalize the hand-in procedure in Fronter within the submission deadline. Please note that during the hand-in period, a special box will be displayed when you click on the login button in Fronter, asking you to enter a PIN-code. Just ignore this! You do not have to enter a PIN-code, even though it says so; just leave the PIN-code field empty and click on the "start exam"-button or click "enter".
The thesis must be uploaded as a PDF-file, and all master's theses should have a common title page as its front page - see below. You can also find a detailed description of how to upload your thesis below. Note that the hand-in procedure consists of two parts: uploading the file, and filling in a separate form with a few questions about the title, number of copies for your department (the answer to this is usually 0), number of copies for yourself etc. After you’ve finalized the hand-in procedure, UiA will take charge of the printing process.
If you are writing in pairs, each student has to log on to Fronter for himself and upload the thesis (the name of the PDF-file should contain the names of both students) and complete the hand-in procedure.
Provided that you receive a passing grade, the number of copies that you’ve ordered for yourself will be sent to you by post to your home address. For more information regarding the costs of extra copies, see http://www.uia.no/no/portaler/om_universitetet/it-hjelp/portal/trykkeriet.

How to convert a Word document into a PDF
All computers here at the University of Agder have a virtual printer - CutePDF - installed. When you have opened your document in Word, select the CutePDF in the list of printer choices and click “print”. The file is then converted into a PDF. Choose a location to save the PDF, and when you are about to hand in your thesis in Fronter, upload the file from this location.
CutePDF Writer is a software program which can be downloaded for free.
