The first week in Grimstad
Arrival
Students flying into Kristiansand Airport will be met by a representative from The International Office in Grimstad. A shuttle bus will take you to campus Grimstad (45 minutes) where you will receive the key to your dorm room.
Students travelling by car, bus or train to Grimstad will be given directions to campus, where a representative from The International Office will meet you and give you the dorm room key.
First Day
On your first day in Grimstad upon arrival you are all invited to a reception on campus. You will meet student coordinators and professors who will provide an outline of the academic year ahead.
In addition, you will meet with The International Office, a very important contact for all international students enrolled at UiA.

Student Admission Check List
- Student Identification Card
- Online Access
- Study Contract with UiA
- Student Housing Contract
- Document control (Passport, visa, insurance)
- Police registration within 7 Days upon arrival
- Apply for national Identification number at the National Population Register (passport/visa)
(Students staying in Norway for more than 6 months: After receiving a residence permit, you can apply for a national ID number at the National Population Register.
- Open Norwegian Bank Account (if needed)
(Students staying in Norway for less than 6 months: You will not be eligible for an ID number. If you need a bank account, ask the bank to apply for a "D- number" on your behalf, a simplified version of the national ID number).
Student Buddy System
Returning UiA students take great pride in guiding new students through the first week of academics and non academics activities, both on and off campus. All students benefit from the UiA student buddy system.
Medical assistance
During your stay in Norway you might need medical assistance. A doctor will be assigned to you after submitting a registration form. International office will assist you processing this paperwork.
Help desk
International students must feel free to ask for help at the student help desk in the student lobby or The International Office.
