Degree-seeking students

Most degree programmes at the University of Agder are taught in Norwegian and applicants must be able to document their Norwegian skills to be admitted.

Admission requirements and applications for these study programmes can be found at NUCAS.

However, the University offers several master and PhD programmes which are taught in English. Information about these programmes can be found in the menu to the left under study programmes.

Application form

The deadline for applying for master degree programmes was January 15 2010 and has now expired. Deadline for students from the EU is March 1. Please send an e-mail til servicetorget@uia.no and request an application form.

Basic Admission Requirements

Category I

For the following countries the basic entrance requirement is a national secondary school leaving certificate that satisfies the basic requirements for admission to higher education institutions in the home country:

Albania, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus (Greek), Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Switzerland, Yugoslavia.

Category II

For the following countries the basic entrance requirement includes one year of studies in academic subjects at university level:

Afghanistan, Algeria, Argentina, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Chile, Cameroon, China (after 1977), Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Cyprus (Turkish), Democratic Republic of Congo (former Zaire), Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Gaza and the West Bank, Ghana (new system), Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Korea (South), Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Mali, Madagascar, Morocco, Mexico, Namibia, Nepal, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Pakistan, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Syria, Taiwan, Tchad, Thailand, Turkey, Uganda, Ukraine, Uruguay, USA, Venezuela, Vietnam, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Category III

For the following countries the basic entrance requirement includes two years of studies in academic subjects at university level:
Armenia, Cambodia, China (until 1966), Laos, Mongolia, Mozambique, Philippines, Turkmenistan.

Category IV

For the following country the basic entrance requirement includes three years of studies in academic subjects at university level:
Myanmar (formerly Burma), Nepal (old system).

English Language Requirement

Non-native English speakers must document their English proficiency by taking one of the following tests/examinations

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), minimum score 500 for a paper-based test, a score of at least 170 for a computer-based test, or minimum 60 for an Internet-based test. TOEFL institution code for UiA is 5433

  • British Council's International English Language Testing Service (IELTS), min. score 5,0.

Please note that the test-result should be no more than two years old and should be sent to us directly from the test centres

Documentation

All the documentation you hand in needs to be certified copies. An official stamp with a signature is required. Copies of attested copies will not be accepted.
Please note that we require that the transcript should be sent to us directly from the following countries:

  • Nigeria

  • Camerun (from University of Buea it is required, from the other institutions it is only a recommended procedure as this facilitates the processing of the application.)

  • Ethiopia

  • Ghana (recommended)

  • Sudan

All original documents, final degrees and mark sheets/transcripts, which are not issued in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English must be translated into one of these languages by a state authorized translator.

Finances/ Visa

Overview of non-visa countries

Applicants outside EEA must submit proof of adequate financial means with the application. For 2010 the amount you need to document is NOK 87 600 for one academic year.

Acceptable Financial documents:

  • Original bank statement in your name (stamped, signed and dated by a bank official)

  • Original bank statement in your sponsor’s name (stamped, signed and dated by a bank official) + an original letter of support from the person named on the bank statement

To register for healthcare in Norway (for students from outside Europe staying for more than 12 months), fill out the form you find here. Deliver it to the International Education Office.
