Individual education plan

All students who are admitted into study programmes will have an education plan.

An education plan is an agreement between the student and the university. It is not legally binding, but it should contain stipulations regarding the institution's responsibilities and obligations toward the student, and the student's obligations toward the institution and fellow students.

The education plan contains a general part (part 1) and an individual part (part 2). While the general part contains information for all students at the university, the individual part pertains to each individual student.

It should, among other things, contain information about the planned study progression and choice of electives. The education plan must be confirmed each semester, and can be altered within more closely defined guidelines. For students, confirmation of the education plan is also a part of semester registration.

What is an education plan?

The purpose of an education plan is to create a greater degree of commitment between the student and the institution. The education plan is a tool for the student to plan his education and the institution to plan teaching and provide education.

Confirming the education plan

When you confirm part 2 of your education plan, you will also be registered for examinations for the current semester's courses as long as they are a part of your plan. If they are not a part of your plan, you must manually choose courses and register for classes and examinations. You must confirm your education plan one semester at a time, but ideally you should plan your entire study programme as far as possible. It is important that you select courses valuing 30 ECTS for the current semester.

Changing the education plan

You can make changes in your education plan by certain deadlines. You can make some changes yourself, but others can only be made after advisement. Information about your study programme can be found in the ECTS course catalogue. If you wish to take an examination in a course that is not in your education plan, or one that you will not get approval for, you have to sign up for these outside of your education plan. If you would like to study part-time, you must contact a student advisor at your faculty to have your education plan changed. A leave of absence can also be granted, but you must apply for this in writing. Please note that if you do not follow study progression and the intention of your education plan, that this can affect your student status, according to the Examination Regulations of the University of Agder.

Deadline for confirming the education plan

The deadline is 1 September for autumn semester and 1 February for spring semeseter. You will receive a semester card when you have paid the semester fee and confirmed your plan. The card will be sent to the semester address as registered in the StudentWeb.

Expected workload

The workload for a full-time student is expected to be at least 1600 hours per academic year, meaning at least 37.5 hours per week for 40 weeks.

Regulations

The institution's activities are regulated by national laws and regulations, as well as those set by the university. It is important that you become acquainted with these regulations. More here
