Research Secretariat
The Research Secretariat is responsible for the strategic and administrative tasks related to research and the PhD programmes, with a special focus on implementing UiA’s research strategy described in the Strategic Plan 2010-2015.
The Research Secretariat provides service, advice and support to the university’s leaders, faculties, institutes, research groups and individual researchers. The Secretariat works closely with other departments within the university and with regional R&D partners.

Areas of work:
- The Research Secretariat works with strategic research questions, briefs the university’s director, makes recommendations to the Central Research Committee and the Central Committee for PhD programmes and follows up on decisions.
- The Research Secretariat contributes to building relationships with regional partners such as research institutions, businesses and corporate networks, government agencies as well as science parks, industry gardens and funding institutions.
- The Research Secretariat serves as a link to national and international funding sources and partners, such as the Research Council of Norway and the EU framework programme. The Secretariat contributes to increasing external funding from national and international funds by providing advice and support to individual researchers, institutes and faculties.
- The Research Secretariat handles questions related to the PhD programmes with regards to the overall reputation of a faculty such as the quality of research, the development of common procedures and courses in collaboration with other departments, consulting, reporting and coordination.
- The Research Secretariat coordinates faculty-wide initiatives and covers a broad range of issues such as central support services management, researcher mobility, research ethics and privacy, quality of research, research reports and courses in research management.
