Torunn Lauvdal reelected as rector

The rector election for the period 2011 - 2015 at UiA is over and the votes have been counted. The election results show that the current rector, Torunn Lauvdal, won with 58.99 % of the votes.

The challenger, associate professor Kristin Dale from Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, received 37, 89 % of the votes. (3, 18% were blank votes).

1338 people voted
The votes were divided between the three constituencies as follows:
Academic staff members: 103 votes for Kristin Dale, 265 votes for Torunn Lauvdal, 15 blank votes.
Administrative staff members: 70 votes for Kristin Dale, 164 votes for Torunn Lauvdal, 7 blank votes.
Students: 564 votes for Kristin Dale, 139 votes for Torunn Lauvdal, 11 blank votes.

The votes are weighted differently. The academic staff member constituency counts 56 %, administrative staff members 20%, and students’ votes 24 %.

13, 9 % election turnout
This year there was a decrease in the election turnout compared to the previous rector election in 2007.
Academic staff members: 62, 13 % of the 602 staff members entitled to vote (compared to 74 % in 2007).
Administrative staff members: 64, 61 % of the 373 staff members who were entitled to vote (compared to 82, 8 % in 2007).
Students: 8, 73 % of the 9321 students who were entitled to vote (compared to 8, 9% in 2007).

Professor Torunn Lauvdal:
Torunn Lauvdal has worked at the University of Agder since she took over as Rector in 2007. She was previously director at Agder Research.

Torunn Lauvdal (born April 30, 1947 in Marnardal) was educated at Kristiansand Teacher Training College and worked for several years as a teacher. She defended her dr.polit. degree in education from NTNU in 1994.

From 1995 to 1997 Torunn Lauvdal worked as a researcher and senior scientist at the Work Research Institute. She has been a research director at SINTEF Industrial Management, and from 2004 till 2007 she was director of Agder Research.

Torunn Lauvdal is a specialist in education policy and has written evaluations of Reform 94. She is a professor at the Faculty of Humanities and Education.
