Conference with Crown Prince Haakon

Crown Prince Haakon was the guest of honour at the conference arranged at the UiA on the 20th of September. Prince Haakon is a Goodwill Ambassador for the UNDP(United Nations Development Program) and has also founded with Princess Mette-Marit "The Crown Prince and Crown Princess' Humanitarian fund".

The purpose is to improve conditions for children and young people in the areas of health and education. The topic of the day was "Development Aid and Emergency Relief-from charity to budget post". It featured guest speakers Dr. Benedicte Bull, Linda Polman, Dr. Stiaan van der Merwe, Jacob Simonsen, and Dr. Asle Toje, and the topics discussed sounded quite strange:”How Humanitarian Aid can Fuel War" or "What the South can do for Norway". These presentations fuelled discussions between both the participants and the speakers, strong arguments were presented, and even more questions were raised.

Following the conference, a discussion was held at the Art Museum between participants from the press, NGOs, Aid Organizations and two of the speakers (Linda Polman and Dr. Stiaan van der Merve), as well as Trond M. Baker from Stromme foundation. Discussions were moderated by Jan Egil Berg and participants were entertained by musician Laob Hammoud, who played an enchanting instrument called an oud.
