International Week

Kristiansand was the host of International Week from the 20th to the 25th of September. Events included a conference at UiA with Prince Haakon as guest of honour.

This year's international week in Norway took place in Kristiansand, and not Oslo, as many would expect. It was organized by The United Nations Association, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Municipality of Kristiansand, Cinemateket and the University of Agder. It was a week filled with cultural activities, from international dinners to art exhibitions or dance performances, screenings of eye-opening films and debates on various themes between students, professors and lecturers from all over the world, seminars or presentations on development aid.

Focusing on Millennium Goals
UN's Millennium Development Goals are the theme of the week. In September 2000, world leaders came together at United Nations Headquarters in New York to adopt the UN Millennium Declaration, which states their nation’s commitment to the world and making it better. The "deadline" they have set for this is 2015. This might not seem like much, but their goals are as hard to reach as they are noble: eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, achieve universal primary education, achieve universal primary education, promote gender equality and empower women, reduce child mortality rate, improve maternal health, combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases, ensure environmental sustainability, develop a global partnership for development and develop a global partnership for development.
