International visit to look at student exchange policies
This week UiA's International Education Office is visited by representatives from universities in Austria and Italy. The visitors are here as part of an Erasmus exchange and will look at how UiA deals with incoming and outgoing exchange students.
Sabine Stickel (from the left) from Fachhochschule Vorarlberg, Cristina Colombo from Università Carlo Cattaneo, Janne Strøm-Fladstad from UiA's International Education Office and Sabine Duelli from Fachhochschule Vorarlberg took a tour of the university campus at Gimlemoen.
Cristina Collombo, Sabrine Stickel and Sabine Duelli are at UiA to have a closer look at how UiA welcomes international students. The areas that the guests want to look at is what kind of services and facilities there are at UiA for international students and what kind of assistance Norwegian students going abroad receive from UiA.
- I am here to compare how we deal with both incoming and outgoing students, Italian Cristina Colombo tells. She works at the International office at the Carlo Cattaneo University in Castellanza, which is situated close to Milan.
Comparison of three universities
- I want to take back ideas and make use of what I can apply back home in Italy. What is good about this visit here at UiA is that we can compare policies from three different universities since Sabine Stickel and Sabine Duelli from Vorarlberg is here as well. A week's stay makes sure that we will learn about as many aspects as possible and we will get a good picture of how things are done here, she adds.
The three visitors are all happy that the Erasmus exchange programme also allows for exchange of administrative staff.
- It is interesting to see how the International Office works. We have many of the same tasks and the same problems, but some of us might have different solutions. The collaboration between the universities might make it easier later on, says Sabine Stickel from Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences in Dornbirn, Austria.
The programme for the visit includes meetings with representatives from the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering and Science in Grimstad, the Examination Office, the Student Information Services, Erasmus Student Network (ESN) in addition to the International Education Office.
The two universities in Austria and Italy are two of several partner institutions UiA has around the world. To see a complete list of UiA partners look here.
