World book day

23 April is the World book- and copyright day

Verdens bokdag artikkelillustrasjon

In 1995 UNESCO declared 23 April as the World book- and copyright day. Hence we now have a worldwide celebration of the significance of literature and freedom of speach.

The idea for this celebration originated in Catalonia where on 23 April, Saint George's Day, a rose is traditionally given as a gift for each book sold - the rose symbolizing love and beauty of poetry.
