Stays lasting 90 days or less
You do not need to apply for a work or residence permit. Researchers from some countries must obtain a visitor's visa before they can enter Norway. Please contact the nearest Norwegian Embassy/Consulate General .
Stays lasting more than 90 days
Once you have received a job offer, please make sure you have a work and/or residence permit if you are going to stay longer than than 90 days in Norway.

Nordic citizens may stay and work in Norway indefinitely without a permit.

Researchers from EU/EEA/EFTA countries can freely travel to Norway and start working as soon as they arrive. In order to stay in Norway for more than 3 months you still need a residence permit . EU/EEA/EFTA citizens may apply at a Norwegian Embassy/Consulate General or from within Norway to the local police or through the Service Centre for Foreign Workers in Oslo or Stavanger.

Researchers from outside the EU/EEA/EFTA countries must obtain a work and residence permit before they can enter Norway and start working. Citizens from non-EU/EEA countries will have to submit their application at the nearest Norwegian Embassy/Consulate General obtaining a visa/permit. Once in Norway, they have to register at the local Police station.
Start in time, don't delay
The processing of visas, residence and work permits may be very time-consuming (see case-processing time ). Be sure to carefully complete the appropriate application form and to submit all required documents well in advance of the planned date of arrival in Norway. This will ensure correct and time-efficient processing of your application by the involved authorities.
