Research Collaboration between Mzumbe University and the University of Agder
History
The collaboration between Mzumbe University , formerly the Institute of Development Management, and the University of Agder , formerly Agder University College dates back to 1988 when the first preliminary agreement between the two institutions was set up and a number of pilot projects was designed and implemented, all sponsored by Norad, the Norwegian Agency for Development.
The results of the first two years of partnership were promising, and in June 1990 the two vice chancellors signed a formal agreement of collaboration between the institutions. This agreement has been renewed a number of times. The two universities are currently in a process aiming at prolonging the partnership till 2011 under the new model of cooperation between Tanzanian public universities and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dar es Salaam. It is likely that a new agreement will be signed during the autumn of 2007 or early in 2008.
Main objectives of the collaboration
- Stimulate activities related to research and consultancy at Mzumbe University and the University of Agder
- Improve the competence of the academic staff and thereby strengthening the two institutions
- Build the necessary supporting infrastructure for skills research by collaborating in the fields of library services, computer and printing
