Research at the Faculty of Humanities and Education

The Faculty’s four departments conduct research in the following areas: education, media and communication, literature, languages (Norwegian, English, French and German), religion, philosophy, art history and history.

The Faculty has as its primary goal to:

front1
  • Achieve research results of high international quality
  • Facilitate the research and development efforts of the scientific staff members
  • Serve the needs for basic research in a wide range of areas
  • Concentrate research efforts on certain prioritized areas

The Faculty will pursue an active research policy mirroring society’s varying needs for knowledge. Research problems will be identified in the different university disciplines and from new perspectives brought on by developments in society.

The Faculty will promote research in existing and planned teaching areas, to ensure that the Faculty has research based education on all levels and within all disciplines and study programmes.

The Faculty has a particular responsibility for basic research in fields where we offer PhD programmes or are developing new PhD programmes. Today the Faculty offers three PhD programmes: Linguistics; Literature; Religion, Ethics and Society. The Faculty plans to offer PhD programmes in all the disciplines where we offer Master's programmes, and is currently working towards the introduction of a new PhD programme in education before 2015.
