For applicants
In order to pursue a PhD in ICT at the University of Agder you must be appointed to a position as a PhD Research Fellow (PhD scholarship). The following requirements apply for admission to the PhD programme :
- The average grade for courses included in the bachelor's degree (or equivalent) must be C or higher.
- The average grade for courses included in the master's degree (or equivalent) must be B or higher.
- The master's thesis (or equivalent) must have a grade B or higher.
Proficiency in oral and written English is required. Applicants from some countries will be required to document their English skills through one of the following tests, with the stated results or better:
- TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language with a minimum score of 550 on the Paper-based Test (PBT), or 80 on the Internet based Test (iBT).
- IELTS – International English Language Testing System, with a result of 6.0.

About the PhD Programme in Mobile Communication Systems
On 17 December 2008, the University Board decided to discontinue the PhD Programme in Mobile Communication (S-sak 155/08). The PhD Programme in ICT was established at the same time. This means that the PhD Programme in ICT is an extension of the former PhD Programme in Mobile Communications Systems. Candidates already enrolled in the PhD Programme in Mobile Communication Systems are allowed to complete their doctoral degree according to the regulations for the former programme:

The programme presupposes knowledge at the master's level in at least one of these specialisations. To gain admission to the PhD programme, the applicant must have been awarded a master's degree or have completed another education programme at the master's level with an average grade of B or better.
