About the PhD programme
This is a research programme. It usually takes three years of full-time study to complete the PhD programme. The structured part of the programme is the equivalent of one year's work, and the doctoral thesis takes two years. The thesis builds upon a scientific investigation which is carried out with supervision from one or two professors. It should lead to new and scientifically-based knowledge of the conditions surrounding mathematics education, knowledge and the learning and teaching of mathematics. Mathematical working methods, the subject's distinctive characteristics and history are also included as possible research areas.
The study places emphasis on international contacts, Nordic cooperation, and it builds close contact with strong research milieus within the field. Some of the instruction and most of the syllabus is in English.
This study programme is normally taken by students who have applied for and received a research fellowship for three years.
