October 24, 2008: The Mechatronics group is strengthened by three new positions in the first half of 2009 in hydraulics (professor), mechanical engineering and control systems (associate professors). This will ensure high teaching quality at Bachelor and Master levels, as well as increase the group's capacity to participate actively in research projects.
October 17, 2008: The Mechatronics group has participated in a large application to the Norwegian Research Council, see NODE Environmental Footprint.
September 19, 2008: The University of Agder is ranked number 3 in Norway in a student satisfaction survey.
September 19, 2008: Senior Engineer Tor Anders Hauge is employed as Adjunct Professor in the Mechatronics group. This will strenghten the UiA collaboration with Xstrata Nickel in Kristiansand as well as the EYDE network. The engagement is made possible by the VRI project financed by the Norwegian Research Council.
August 16, 2008: All study places in the Bachelor Mechatronics are taken and the Master Mechatronics is starting up, see this article in the local newspaper (in Norwegian).
August 15, 2008: Article about NODE (Norwegian Offshore and Drilling Engineering) and Mechatronics in the newspaper Dagens Næringsliv (DN).
Juli 21, 2008: The Mechatronics study program has for the first time in many years no available study places left at Restetorget (national list of available study programs after first intake). Mechatronics at UiA has 90 study places at Bachelor level (per year) and 30 places at Master level (per year). The popularity of the Bachelor program has increased significantly over the last three years. The Mechatronics group has as goals at least two applicants per place, to enroll skilled students, to maintain a high technical level in the courses and to maintain a high student completion ratio. These goals ensure that the reputation of the Mechatronics program and our graduating engineers is maintained in the regional and national engineering companies.
June 26, 2008: The new Master Mechatronics and the collaboration between the NODE cluster companies and UiA in the local news. Even if the individual courses are targeted towards the offshore industry, the master Mechatronics education is a general education which will also be useful in other industries, for example process automation.
| June 23, 2008: A new wave tank in the course MAS115 Design for Marine Environment 1 will be introduced in semester 1, 2008. The lecturer Hans Jørgen Bjelke Mørch says that the new tank makes it possible to connect wave theory and simulations with physical experiments and demonstrations. The new wave tank will make the course MAS115 more interesting and interactive for the students who choose the profile marine Technology in the 3rd year BSc Mechatronics. |

| June 19, 2008: The lectures in the summer course Mathematics 3 are now half completed. The course is lectured by Per Henrik Hogstad for the first time this year and 20 students follow the lectures. Some of the students are already in one of the UiA Master programs, several of the other students are planning to start a Master degree (ICT, Ind.Øk, Mechatronics) this autumn. The response from some of the students is positive, the lectures by Per Henrik Hogstad and tutor Ninni Marie Hogstad are of top quality, and this summer course should be repeated next year. |
