13 Reasons to Study Mechatronics at the University of Agder:
1. Quality: The quality of the courses given is of international standard. Many of the lecturers have significant experience, from companies and other universities in Norway and overseas.
2. Project Work: In the Master program in Mechatronics there is emphasis on multi-disciplinary project work in groups of typically 2-4 students. In addition to the technical work, there is also emphasis on project organisation, progress plans and project management.
3. English: Most of the teaching material in the master's programme is in English. If a class consists of many international students, then lectures are taught in English. In some cases (about 25%), the lecturers speak in Norwegian (but the written material is in English) and provide an additional questions & answer session for international students. However, international students interested in the Master of Mechatronics, must be willing to learn some basic Norwegian during their stay and be-able to attend some lectures in Norwegian. The Bachelor Programme in Mechatronics is taught mainly in Norwegian, but a complete set of courses is offered in 3rd year in English for foreign exchange students.
4. Fees: Tuition fees are very low in Norway compared to many other countries. Currently the tuition fees are less than 100 euros per semester.
5. Job Opportunities: The demand for mechatronics engineers in the local industry has been very high during the last few years. International students with good grades will have very good chances of employment in the local industry after graduation. The job market for mechatronics students is also good in other countries. We can guarantee a master thesis project in one of our partner companies, such as Aker Solutions Pusnes, Aker Solutions Maritime Hydraulics, National Oilwell Varco, Origo Engineering, MacGregor Hydramarine, Advanced Production and Loading, TTS Energy, ABB (Oslo and Sweden), XStrata, Elkem, Saint-Gobain, and others. 6. Bologna Model: The bachelor's degree at the University of Agder follows the new Bologna model for education in the EU countries. This means that after completing a 3-year bachelor degree at the University of Agder, you can continue with a master's degree at any university in the EU which also follows the Bologna model.
7. Climate: Grimstad is located in the south coast of Norway, which has the best climate in the country, characterised by relatively warm and dry summers and mild winters. The region is a popular holiday destination for both Norwegians and international visitors. See map.
8. New Campus: As a student at Campus Grimstad you will get access to high modern facilities and lab equipment.
9. Master and PhD: After completing a Bachelor degree, you can continue with a 2-year Master degree and 3-year PhD degree. The demand for engineering graduates with further education than bachelor is growing in the Southern Norway region.
10. Genuine Masters: All courses are separated from the Bachelor courses. Regardless of background (mechanical, electrical or mechatronics) from the bachelor degree, the master students will not have any courses in common with the bachelor students.
11. Location: Grimstad is ideally located between two larger cities, Arendal (20km) and Kristansand (50km). The distance to the international airport (Kjevik, airport code is KRS) is only 40km. From Kjevik there are direct flights to Norwegian cities in addition to Copenhagen, Amsterdam and London. The distance to another international airport, Torp Sandefjord (code TRP) is only 150km. The distance to the main airport in Norway, Oslo Gardermoen (OSL), is 320km. Stavanger airport Sola (code SVG) is 300km away.
12. Accommodation: The cost and availability of accommodation in Grimstad is currently much better than in the larger Norwegian university cities, such as Oslo, Trondheim, Stavanger and Bergen. Private accomodation is an alternative to the student accomodation organised by the University.
