Five research groups are responsible for all the activities at the department. All groups are in close contact with public and industrial partners, who offer exciting projects for students and cutting-edge research for the scientific staff. The groups are:

Aerospace: offers the only aerospace program in Norway. The group cooperates closely with the aerospace and the shipping industry.

Civil engineering: handles areas within structural engineering, design & technical planning, as well as energy design.

Renewable energy and electrical power: handles areas concerning energy production and distribution, as well as electronics. The group offers separate BSc and MSc-programmes, and contributes to several other areas, such as mechatronics and computer sciences.

Industrial economy and management: is a joint effort, including Faculty of economics and social sciences. Focus is on leadership and management of production activities.

Mechatronics: is presently the most expansive group at this department. By fall 2008 a new MSc is starting up, and ambitions are to build a PhD- environment within a few years. more..
