Higher Education Entrance Qualification or Prior learning and work experience
There is no specified performance level, but it is advisable that students are in good physical condition when starting the programme.
The aim is to give a basic physical and sports education primarily intended for the training and instruction of children and adolescents. Based on experience, knowledge and skills in sports developed during the programme, students will be qualified to coach, by planning, preparing, implementing, carrying out, guiding and evaluating all-round physical activity, and will have acquired knowledge of the impact physical activity and environment may have for individual´s development and health.
A central topic will be making acceptable conditions for conducting work within the volunteer sports. This can be done by presenting a selection of activities where the development of relevant solutions related to tasks of movement is important. The position and role of sport in society, the understanding of how performance, development and learning happen in a sports context will be emphasised. Human physiology related to physical activity, and the importance of physical activity in an individual and public health perspective will also be central topics.

The Examination Regulations of the University of Agder regulate the graduation requirements for each programme of study.
In the light of experience, knowledge and skills in sports, and after having completed the programme the student will:
The extent of compulsory instruction will be described in the course descriptions. Basically, all instruction in practical sports activities, laboratory work and excursions are compulsory with a 100% attendance requirement. Instruction will be given as lectures, supervised group work, seminars, demonstrations, practical sports activities and excursions.
Language of instruction: Norwegian
Various assessment methods are used: at-school examination; at-home examination; project and fieldwork.
Arrangements are made for international exchange. The faculty is internationally engaged through the programmes Nordplus and Erasmus, and elsewhere in Europe and also Australia. Please refer to the faculty´s web-pages and to the International Department for further information.
The study programme can be included as part of the Bachelor in physical education and sport, or in a self chosen Bachelor´s Programme. The programme forms a basis for work as a trainer or coach within volunteer sports, and for work in fitness centres. The study programme can be included as the fourth year in General Teacher Education, as well as being post-qualifying education for teachers. In connection with other educational programmes the One-year Programme in Physical Education and Sport will give the graduates the right to teach in upper secondary school.

Parts of the instruction will be given as courses outside the Campus in Kristiansand. Expenses related to this must be covered by the student.
