Through reading, lectures and group work, the student will acquire knowledge about both fundamental and professional ethics. The student should be able to elucidate ethical challenges in social work and be able to reflect upon these challenges from different aspects of ethical thinking and theories.

The course content may be divided into two main sections:

Basic ethics:

  • A general introduction to various ethical movements/directions
  • Relational ethics with their basis in the philosophy of K. Løgstrup, M. Buber og E. Levinas, will receive special attention
  • Views on humanity
  • Ethical reflection

Area ethics:

  • Professional ethics contents and purpose
  • Professional ethics chalennges within welfare systems
  • Values within the welfare state
  • Economy and ethics

Lecture and group work with assignments and/or group presentations.

Approved written group assignment and /or an oral presentation.

5-hour individual written examination. Graded assessment
