Learning outcomes Through reading, lectures and group work, the student will acquire knowledge about both fundamental and professional ethics. The student should be able to elucidate ethical challenges in social work and be able to reflect upon these challenges from different aspects of ethical thinking and theories.

Course contents

The course content may be divided into two main sections:

Basic ethics:

• A general introduction to various ethical movements/directions
• Relational ethics with their basis in the philosophy of K. Løgstrup, M. Buber og E. Levinas, will receive special attention
• Views on humanity
• Ethical reflection

Area ethics:

• Professional ethics contents and purpose
• Professional ethics chalennges within welfare systems
• Values within the welfare state
• Economy and ethics

Teaching methods and workload Lecture and group work with assignments and/or group presentations.

Examination requirement Approved written group assignment and /or an oral presentation.

Assessment methods and criteria 5-hour individual written examination. Graded assessment
