Norwegian.

The students will get an overview of the most important issues in labour law. Main focus is on new trends in the organisation of public administration in particular and working life in general, such as outsourcing or privatisation of different types of work in public sector or affiliated with public sector, reorganisation and exposure to competition, contract workers vs. permanent employees. In addition the students also will get an overview of legal issues in connection with employment protection and handling of job vacancies in public sector. Great importance is attached to public administration in particular and management issues in general.

Topics include:

  • Introduction to legal language and methodology, special focus on the Work Environment Act.
  • Survey of and introduction to central labour law issues, among other things the relationship between employer and employees with special attention to section 12 of the Work Environment Act.
  • Review of employment issues such as pay, working hours, leave of absence with/without pay, sickness allowance scheme, vacation, and work environment.
  • Dismissal and resignation, employee's rights as to job vacancy priviliges (public sector), collective wage bargaining, collective wage settlement and industrial conflict.

Lectures, group work and exercises.

Approved compulsory assignment.

5-hour written examination with graded marks.

First cycle i.e. bachelor level.
