General description and profile of the programme Equal opportunities for men and women is a central issue in families, society and working life. Women and men participate in different ways in these arenas. The study programme, Equal Opportunities, gives a systematic introduction to important issues and measures concerned with equal opportunities. In particular, the course discusses effects of various socialisation mechanisms and regulatory and normative measures.

Graduation requirements The Examination Regulations of the University of Agder regulate the graduation requirements for each programme of study.

Learning outcomes Upon completion of the programme students will - have acquired knowledge of the implication of equality of gender on different arenas, such as within the family, at work and in social settings - be well familiar with the legislation and be qualified to implement measures to promote equal opportunities - have acquired knowledge of gender theory and socialisation mechanisms in upbringing, school and education -have aquired knowledge about the gender perspective in organizations.

Teaching methods Lectures, seminars, tutorials, presentations and study excursion.

Assessment methods Forms of assessment vary: written examination (LIK100-1), individual oral presentation (LIK101-1), and individual project work and oral examination (LIK102-2).

Occupational profiles of graduates and access to further studies The programme gives competence in planning and implementing equal status, which is relevant for both the private and public sector as well as in the culture and non-profit sectors. The programme is relevant for consultants, advisers and teachers, as well as other types of work involving children and youth.The programme can also be included in an unspecified bachelor degree.
