The main focus in the first year will be sport and physical education. Central topics are activities theory and biological and social sciences. In the third semester (second year) there will be an in depth focus on sport and physical education. It is recommended that a 30-credit course be taken abroad. The faculty has agreements for student exchange with several universities and university colleges in Europe and Australia. In the fourth semester (second year) students must take Ex.phil. (10 credits), Ex.fac. (10 credits) and one elective course. The third year will focus on outdoor activities. In addition to the theory of outdoor activities, there will be focus on theoretical and practical skills within various natural environments (sea, coastline, mountains and moor lands). Upon application, other 60-credit modules may be recognised as part of the programme. Fitness Trainer Education (30 credits) may be included as part of the bachelor programme, while other 30-credit modules in physical education and sports, including various trainer educations, may also be recognised.

Studieplanramme

After having completed the programme, the student will have broad theoretical and practical knowledge, including mastering methods and tools to be able to: relate the knowledge to the challenges in society within the field physical activities/sports understand problems related to the field, and to obtain and analyse relevant data and impart ideas and solutions manage, plan, carry out and evaluate various forms of physical activity for various groups in society and school

The extent of compulsory instruction will be described in the course descriptions. Basically, all instruction in practical sports activities, laboratory work and excursions are compulsory with a 100% attendance requirement. Instruction will be given as lectures, group work with coaching, seminars, demonstrations, practical sports activities and excursions.

Various assessment methods are used: at-school examination; at-home examination; project and fieldwork with assignment.

Arrangements are made for international exchange. The faculty is internationally engaged through the programmes Nordplus and Erasmus, and elsewhere in Europe and also Australia. Please refer to the faculty´s web-pages and to the International Department for further information.

In order to start the specialisation in sports/physical education (courses IDR200, IDR201 and IDR202), all the examinations in the first year must have been passed.

The programme qualifies for employment as teachers, trainers, coaches in physical activities/sports, in addition to coaches related to outdoor activities and nature guiding within private enterprise, as well as for relevant jobs in school and public administration. In order to be a physical education teacher, 1 year study programme in educational theory and practice must be taken in addition to the bachelor programme. Through elective courses the programme may also qualify for being a coach or a trainer within the commercial health and fitness sector and in public health institutions. The programme qualifies for further studies at master level.
