Grimstad
Grimstad is the engineering and technological centre of the University of Agder and also offers studies in health, education and economics. Grimstad is situated 50 kilometres to the east of Kristiansand.
Grimstad was one of the first commercial centres in the Agder region and has a long history in shipping, from sail ships 100 years ago to modern tankers today.
Grimstad is famous for its small, white wooden houses and for being the place where Norway’s well known writers Henrik Ibsen and Knut Hamsun lived. Today Grimstad has a population of 18,000 and a student body of more than 1,500. Like Kristiansand, it is a very popular summer tourist resort. It is also known for its many international shipping companies, offshore-related industries as well as a swiftly growing information and communications industry, all important industrial partners for the university.
