Among the first things you should do when you come to Norway is to register for a Norwegian ID-number, tax deduction card and residence permit. These are needed in order to process salary payments, open a bank account, register a telephone subscription and for other services.

If you have submitted your application for a residence/work permit at a Norwegian Embassy/General Consulate, you will have to register in person at the local police or at the Service Centre for Foregin Workers within seven working days after you arrive in Norway. This is also the case for other family members.

The Service Centres for Foreign Workers (SUA) in Oslo and Stavanger are national visiting centres which offers fast-track handling of all the necessary applications within five working days. We strongly recommend that all new international staff make a stopover in Oslo or Stavanger when you arrive in Norway in order to get your applications processed quickly.
