VPN and File access

VPN solution
WebVPN
Logg in with your username and password on our new VPN solution: https://vpn.uia.no/.
By using the WebVPN feature, you can navigate and access services such as:

NOTE: ESS must use AnyConnect for access, see below.

AnyConnect
You need AnyConnect to access your files by logging in to Novell, or run the software license servers, etc. (eg. SPSS). You will also need AnyConnect to connect to Agresso and FS, which are Citrix solutions. This also applies to access to ESS.

When using AnyConnect you install a VPN client configured according to your operating system on your machine. Please read this manual before you install AnyConnect:

AnyConnect supports the following operating systems:

  • Windows XP (SP3), Vista (SP2) and 7 (both 32 - and 64-bit)
  • Mac OS X 10.5 (32-bit), 10.6 and 10.6.1 (both 32 - and 64-bit)
  • Linux - Red Hat Ent. 5 Desktop, Ubuntu 9.x.

You can still use your old VPN client on the new VPN solution. But we strongly recommend using the new AnyConnect solution, since there will be no updates on the old VPN client in the future. If you would like to continue with the old solution, you must change the current setting of the VPN installation.

File access
All students and staff at UiA get their own private network area for saving documents, etc. The advantage of storing in the network (as opposed to store on your USB pen, your own computer, etc.) is that everything stored in your area will be backed up every night. Thus you are able to retrieve documents that has been deleted or lost due to disk crash clip, etc. This area appears as a network drive (M disc) when you log in to a UiA desktop computer.

If you want to access this area without being logged in to a computer at UiA, do as follows.

Note that if you are outside the University network, you must be connected to AnyConnect VPN for these services to work.

Run this file to set-up your networkdisk:

Novell without a wired network
Having a computer from the UiA with the Novell client installed allows you to log in to your private network site. Log in with Workstation only, right click on the red Novell icon in the lower right corner of the screen?(a red N) and log in with your username and password.

Connecting to your private network site from Mac
Select Go and connect to server . Enter the server name of your local server. Normally this is fil22 for employees in Kristiansand, and fil41 for employees in Grimstad. Note that there are exceptions to this rule, so if that does not work please contact IT Support who can find out where your server is located.
