Established in the spring of 2010, the centre is a multidisciplinary co-operation between the Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences, the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, as well as the Faculty of Engineering and Science. Under the direction of Assoc. Prof. Rune Fensli, the centre wants to contribute to a better and more efficient use of technology for patients in their everyday life. In the centre's clinical laboratory a setup for “mini Health Care Norway” is established, including a patient home with smart-house integrations, and with a secured health network infrastructure. This is ideal for controlled lab tests of new ICT solutions and procedures for extended care coordination, usability studies among others.
A paradigm shift in Emergency Preparedness & Management is now possible owing to persistent progress in mobile technologies and services, their worldwide diffusion and affordability, and the emergence of ever new ingenious uses by citizens. CIEM, directed by Prof. Jose J Gonzalez, has as primary objective to facilitate the shift by significantly advancing the solution of interlinked key problems in ICT, information systems and socio-cultural factors affecting the adoption of new solutions.
