"Jenter og mekatronikk", Girls & Mechatronics

On the 8th March, Faculty of Engineering and Science informed 250 female pupils from collages in Agder County in order to attract more female students to the engineering education. Associate Professor Sara Persson and Professor Geir Hovland presented the Mechatronic studies and demonstrated how a robot can be used in product development work.

One of the presentations in the ”Jenter & Teknologi” program was performed by the Mechatronics division in the robot laboratory. Sara Persson presented exciting and creative possibilities provided by the bachelor and master studies in Mechatronics. Product development is one of the focus areas in the studies and the design of models and prototypes is central. The division keeps advanced equipment for such activities, two industrial robots and a 3D printer among other things.

Today, 90 students study Mechatronics in the 1st year, and the division plan to provide for new focus areas in Industrial Design and Product Development, Marine Technology, and Electrical Control Systems. Strong demands from the regional industry had lead to the establishment of a master study in Mechatronics (start up: autumn 2008). The master program offers in-depth studies in e.g., hydraulics, control technology and product development.
