At UiA we have two types of courses: 5 and 10 credits. A 5 credits course has two hours of lectures and two hours of tutorials/practical sessions per week. Sometimes a course consisting of 5 credits is compressed to 4 hours of lectures and 4 hours of tutorials / practical sessions per week and the course is completed in half a semester. We have a total of 14 weeks of lectures, which results in a total of 56 contact hours per semester for a 5 credits course and 112 contact hours for a 10 credits course.
Hence, 1 ECTS credit equals:
A normal workload for a student is 30 credits per semester, which results in a weekly workload of 24 contact hours. In addition, it is expected that a full-time student works 24 hours per week with independent study / preparation work.
The bachelor's thesis counts for 15 credits and the master's thesis counts 30 credits.
There are two semesters at UiA. The first (autumn) semester starts in the middle of August and the second semester (spring) starts in the middle of January. There is no summer semester. In total, a 3-year bachelor's degree at UiA consists of 2016 contact hours and the 2-year master's degree consists of 1344 contact hours.
