Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences

The Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences is responsible for study programmes, research and dissemination in the fields of business administration, economics, organizational theory, political science, social work, development studies and information systems.

The Faculty has more than 2700 students and nearly 150 employees. There are six departments at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. One of the departments is located in Grimstad. The remaining units and the majority of faculty and staff members are located in Kristiansand.

The picture shows the Faculty's building at campus Gimlemoen in Kristiansand. The building is named after Eilert Sundt (1817-1875) who was a ground-breaking researcher in Norwegian social science.

European Integration more interesting than ever

The EISS - European Integration Summer School - of 2011 attracts master students from both UiA and other universities in Norway and abroad. The current economic turmoil in some of the euro countries makes the study of European integration more important and more interesting than ever. During intensive weeks the students learn about historical and contemporary political processes of European integration that can explain the challenges European political leaders face at the moment.

Field course in Indonesia 2011

21 students from the University of Agder (UiA) travelled to Indonesia in January and February 2011 in order to take part in the field course in development studies. The field course report is available by way of a website.
"Our journey through Indonesia has truly been an adventure we will never forget. It has taught us about how to respect different cultures and how to cope when spending every day with up to 28 different persons," students say in their report.

ICT conference in Katmandu in May 2011

Devinder Thapa

Department of Information Systems organized the conference Partners for Development - ICT Actors and Actions in Katmandu, Nepal, 22 - 25 May. Check out the video where Research Fellow Devinder Thapa explains about the conference.

ICT and Development is one of the central research topics in the Information Systems PhD programme at UiA.
