Java is the most populous island of Indonesia, where you will find the capital city, Jakarta. Java plays a dominant role in the economic and political life of Indonesia.

Religion:
The majority of Javanese are muslim, but Java has a diverse mixture of religious beliefs and cultures.

Yogyakarta province:
Yogyakarta is a province located in south-central Java. It is the only province in Indonesia that is still governed by that area's precolonial monarchy. The Sultan of Yogyakarta serves as the elected governor of the province, in addition to be looked upon as a god that is ruling over everything from the weather to earthquakes.

Yogyakarta is a symbol of resistance against the Dutch colonial rule. In 1948 when the Dutch occupied Yogyakarta, the Sultan hid the rebels in his palace. The Dutch did not dare trying to get to the Sultan because of the Javanese people who held their Sultan close to their heart.

Yogyakarta city is also known as a center of classical Javanese fine art and culture such as batik, ballet, drama, music, poetry and puppet shows.

Prambanan is the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia. The Buddhist temple, Borobudur, and Prambanan are two of the most popular tourist attractions.

Yogyakarta is also famous for Indonesian higher education, with the University of Gadjah Mada.
