Lombok 7-8th of January

The first day in Lombok 07.01.10
We arrived at our hotel, the Santai. It is a lovely and relaxing resort at Mansit beach. The name "Santai" actually means relax in bahasa-indonesia. Everyone arrived by different means of transportation. Some arrived by airplane, some by boat and some on foot. That night we had dinner together at the hotel and discussed the program for the next week. Some of us had our first Asian meal.

The second day in Lombok 08.01.10
On Friday we ordered breakfast for seven o’clock. However, it did not arrive until 40 minutes later. So we were a little late when we arrived at the University of Mataram. Here we attended lections with a local scholar of demographics and administration. The scholar was very open to answering our questions. Later we had another lecture with a representative of the government. He however was not as open. We felt that our questions were answered in a very avoiding manner. He did not give us a full understanding of issues such as corruption and the governments support of the poor. Later, some of us went back to the beach, while some of us explored Mataram. In the evening, we all had dinner together at the neighbor hotel, which brought that day to a conclusion.
