Curriculum Vitae

Gulzaib Rafiq received his Bachelor's degree (BE) in Electrical Engineering (EE) in 2003 from the National University of Engineering Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan. In 2006, he received the Master of Science degree (MS) in Electronics Engineering from Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIK), Pakistan. He was awarded a merit certificate of excellence for securing second position in academics in BE. Moreover, he was also awarded gold medals both in BE and MS for making the best engineering design project and for being the best MS student by securing first position in academics in MS, respectively. In February 2011, he completed his PhD degree program in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as well as successfully defended the PhD disputation at the University of Agder (UiA) in Grimstad, Norway. The research in his PhD was funded by the Research Council of Norway (Norges Forskningsråd, NFR) through the project 176773/S10 entitled “Optimized Heterogeneous Multiuser MIMO Networks - OptiMO". He has received two best research paper awards so far, one in the poster presentation and the other in the oral presentation category.

Since March 2011, he is employed at the Mobile Communications Group of UiA as a Research Fellow. His current research interests include mainly the PHY layer aspects of wireless communications, especially mobile radio channel modelling, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, machine-to-machine communications, performance studies of communication systems, and information theoretic analysis of mobile radio channels.
