Researchers from the Nordic and Baltic countries were gathered at UiA in Kristiansand for three days in February to discuss methods and methodology for research on mathematics textbooks. Professor Barbro Grevholm introduces the workshop below:
A survey conducted in February 2012 among 55 graduates from the two most recent bachelor classes of the renewable energy programme, gave a response rate of 100%. The submitted data illustrates that 96,4 % has acquired relevant work, or have started their master’s degree.
The TIMSS-study concludes that Norwegian teachers are among the most dependent on use of mathematics textbooks. The teaching is said to be textbooks driven. But still research on textbooks is rare.
The First Sourcebook on Nordic Research in Mathematics Education Martin Carlsen, Anne Berit Fuglestad, Simon Goodchild (pictured above) and other members of the mathematics education research group at UiA have made a significant contribution to this recently published volume, which ’provides the first comprehensive and unified treatment of historical and contemporary research trends in mathematics education in the Nordic world’. Also in the picture is Professor Bharath Sriraman (University of Montana) who is general editor of the Sourcebook.
